Abu Uways al-Kurdi (fl. 15th century AH / 21st century CE) is a contemporary Egyptian hadith researcher and editor based in Dakahlia Governorate, associated with the scholarly circle of Mustafa ibn al-Adawi.

Identity and Background

His full name is Ashraf ibn Nasr ibn Sabir al-Kurdi (أشرف بن نصر بن صابر الكردي), and he is widely known by the kunya Abu Uways al-Kurdi. He settled in Munyat Samannud within the Aga district of the Dakahlia Governorate in Egypt.

Scholarly Activities and Editorial Work

Al-Kurdi pursued hadith studies and research under the guidance of Mustafa ibn al-Adawi, regularly taking part in study sessions dedicated to reviewing research papers and hadith determinations alongside fellow students. He compiled the multi-volume reference collection Silsilat al-Fawaid al-Hadithiyya wal-Fiqhiyya ("The Series of Hadith and Jurisprudential Benefits"), which documented legal rulings, theological points, and hadith verifications extracted from those review sessions, adding his own independent research and hadith evaluations (takhrij).

In manuscript editing, he prepared a critical edition of the classical treatise al-Rihla fi Talab al-Hadith ("Travel in Pursuit of Hadith") by al-Khatib al-Baghdadi, collating copies from the Zahiriyya Library in Damascus and verifying its narrations. Alongside this edition, he composed two supplementary treatises: al-Shula fi Shuyukh al-Khatib fi al-Rihla ("The Torch Regarding the Teachers of al-Khatib in 'al-Rihla'"), which profiles the direct teachers appearing in the chains of the book with the assistance of material gathered by his cousin Yasir ibn Mahmud al-Kurdi, and Rihlat al-Fudala kama Waradat biha al-Anba ("The Journey of the Virtuous as Transmitted in the Reports"), which surveys historical accounts of travel for sacred learning from early times up to the fifth century AH.
