Tahqiq al-Tajrid fi Sharh Kitab al-Tawhid (Realization of Divesting [All Else] in Commentary on the Book of Monotheism) is a commentary by Abd al-Hadi al-Bakri al-Ujayli (d. c. 1250 AH / 1834 CE; also reported as 1262 AH / 1846 CE) on Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab's theological treatise Kitab al-Tawhid .
Purpose and Content
In the introduction to the work, the author identifies the science of Islamic monotheism (tawhid) and the exclusive devotion of worship to God as the paramount and most foundational of religious disciplines . He characterizes Kitab al-Tawhid as one of the most beneficial works composed on the topic and opens his commentary with a concise biographical sketch of Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab, recounting his birth in al-Uyaynah in 1115 AH, his travels in pursuit of religious knowledge, and his relocation to al-Dir'iyyah to summon people to sincere worship . The text systematically explains the scriptural proofs, hadiths, and narrations assembled in the original treatise .
Attribution and Place Among Commentaries
The title appears consistently on the opening folios of all manuscript copies as Tahqiq al-Tajrid fi Sharh Kitab al-Tawhid, matching the author's own phrasing in his preface . A scribal colophon explicitly names the commentator as Abd al-Hadi ibn Muhammad ibn Abd al-Hadi .
The work forms part of the early tradition of commentaries on Kitab al-Tawhid, which includes Taysir al-Aziz al-Hamid by Sulayman ibn Abd Allah (d. 1233 AH), Fath al-Hamid by Uthman ibn Abd al-Aziz ibn Mansur (d. 1282 AH), and Fath al-Majid by Abd al-Rahman ibn Hasan (d. 1285 AH) .
Editions
The work was edited by Hasan ibn Ali ibn Husayn al-Awaji and published in two volumes by Maktabat Adwa' al-Salaf in Riyadh (first edition, 1419 AH / 1999 CE) .
