Silsilat al-Tafsir li Mustafa al-Adawi (The Exegesis Series of Mustafa al-Adawi) is a collection of Quranic exegesis (tafsir) lectures and writings by the contemporary Egyptian scholar Abu Abd Allah Mustafa al-Adawi.
Scope and Structure
The series encompasses al-Adawi's exegesis across chapters of the Quran, emphasizing textual explanation, legal deductions, and traditional narrations. Among his individual monograph commentaries published as part of his exegesis work are Tafsir Surat Al Imran (1st ed., 1415 AH / 1994–1995 CE, Dar al-Sunnah) and Tafsir Surat al-Nur (1st ed., 1411 AH / 1990–1991 CE, Maktabat Makkah) . His broader Quranic publications also include al-Qur'an bil-Tafsir and al-Bayan fi Ma'ani Kalimat al-Qur'an (The Clarification of the Meanings of Quranic Words), both published in single-volume formats by Maktabat Makkah .
Method and Related Exegetical Works
Al-Adawi's approach to Quranic exegesis is closely tied to his work in hadith criticism and the verification of traditional exegetical sources (al-tafsir bil-ma'thur). In addition to his own commentaries, he has produced extensive editions and abridgments of foundational classical exegesis works. He edited and annotated Ibn Kathir's Tafsir al-Qur'an al-Azim in fifteen volumes (Dar Ibn Rajab and Dar al-Fawa'id), distilled its authenticated traditions into the four-volume Sahih Tafsir Ibn Kathir, and subsequently issued a three-volume abridgment entitled Mukhtasar Sahih Tafsir Ibn Kathir (Maktabat Fayyad) . He also edited and annotated Ibn al-Qayyim's commentary on the two refuge-seeking surahs, Tafsir al-Mu'awwidhatayn .
