Sharh Kitab al-Tawhid min Sahih al-Bukhari ("Commentary on the Book of Divine Unity from Sahih al-Bukhari") is a theological commentary by the Saudi scholar Ibn Baz (1330–1420 AH / 1912–1999 CE) on the final book of Sahih al-Bukhari by al-Bukhari (194–256 AH / 810–870 CE) .

Origin and Delivery

The work originated as a series of early morning (fajr) lessons delivered by Ibn Baz in 1409 AH (c. 1988–1989 CE) at the Imam Turki ibn Abd Allah Mosque (the Grand Mosque) in Riyadh . During these sessions, the text of Kitab al-Tawhid from Sahih al-Bukhari was recited to him by two scholars: Abd al-Aziz ibn Abd Allah al-Rajihi and Abd al-Aziz ibn Ibrahim ibn Qasim .

Scope and Content

The commentary focuses on expounding Islamic monotheism according to the creed of Ahl al-Sunna wa-l-Jama'a and addressing opposing views through the hadiths and chapter headings compiled by al-Bukhari in the concluding section of his Sahih . The remarks reflect Ibn Baz's broader pedagogical approach and interpretive positions across his teaching corpus .

Transcription and Publication

The oral lectures were transcribed from audio recordings and prepared for publication by Muhammad ibn Abkar ibn Abd al-Rahim al-Qar'ani, a student of Ibn Baz from 1405 AH until the latter's death . The project was carried out under the auspices and authorization of the Shaykh Abd al-Aziz ibn Baz Charitable Foundation . Al-Qar'ani cross-checked the transcribed text against the audio recordings, aligned it with the editorial guidelines of the foundation, added source references, and provided concise hadith documentation (takhrij) .

The text was reviewed prior to publication by a committee of scholars, including Ali ibn Abd al-Aziz al-Shibl, Sa'id ibn Wahf al-Qahtani, and Fahd ibn Uthman ibn Baz . In an endorsement dated 20 Safar 1439 AH, al-Shibl commended the transcription and noted efforts underway to assemble all of Ibn Baz's commentaries on Sahih al-Bukhari into a unified collection .
