- Sharh Kitab al-Hajj min Sahih Muslim - Abd al-Karim al-Khudayr
Sharh Kitab al-Hajj min Sahih Muslim is a contemporary commentary by the Saudi scholar Abd al-Karim al-Khudayr on the "Book of Pilgrimage" (Kitab al-Hajj) from Sahih Muslim by Muslim ibn al-Hajjaj (d. 261 AH / 875 CE) .
Composition and Format
The work consists of transcripts of audio lectures delivered by al-Khudayr, which were transcribed and published through his official website . In its electronic compilation, the text is structured into twenty-nine numbered lessons corresponding to the original recording sessions . The lectures were delivered over multiple years in mosques during recurring annual courses preceding the pilgrimage season, running up until the 7th of Dhu al-Hijjah .
Scope and Methodology
The commentary systematically goes through the hadiths compiled in the Kitab al-Hajj section of Sahih Muslim, which al-Khudayr introduces as the most authentic collection of the Prophetic Sunnah after Sahih al-Bukhari according to the majority of Islamic scholars .
The lessons address both the chains of transmission (asānīd) and the juristic rulings derived from the texts. Key topics covered throughout the sessions include:
- The permissible and prohibited garments for a pilgrim entering the state of ihram (mā yalbasuhu al-muḥrim) .
- Rulings regarding hunting while in ihram and the animals permitted or forbidden to kill .
- Expiations (fidyah) and medical exemptions, such as shaving the head due to illness or lice .
- The merits of performing Umrah during Ramadan .
- The detailed itinerary and ritual guidance (hady) of the Prophet ﷺ during the Farewell Pilgrimage, as well as answers to student questions on specific fiqh problems arising during the rituals .
