Sharh Jawami al-Akhbar (Arabic: شرح جوامع الأخبار) is a contemporary hadith commentary by the Saudi scholar Abd al-Karim ibn Abd Allah al-Khudayr, explaining the collection Jawami al-Akhbar compiled by Abd al-Rahman ibn Nasir al-Sa'di (d. 1376 AH / 1956 CE) .
Origin and Scope
The base text, Jawami al-Akhbar (also titled Bahjat Qulub al-Abrar wa-Qurrat Uyun al-Akhyar fi Sharh Jawami al-Akhbar), consists of ninety-nine comprehensive prophetic traditions selected by al-Sa'di to cover major topics of Islamic faith, acts of worship, financial transactions, character, and spiritual heart-softeners (raqa'iq) .
The commentary originated as an intensive audio lecture course delivered by al-Khudayr over the span of six days in a mosque setting . The lectures were subsequently transcribed, organized, and released through the scholar's scientific office in cooperation with Tasjilat al-Rayah al-Islamiyyah and published on his official website in ten transcribed lessons .
Method and Structure
In his introduction, al-Khudayr highlights the tradition of early scholars who authored concise manuals to facilitate the memorization and understanding of essential religious texts after the era of exhaustive hadith compendia . He emphasizes following the approach of the early generations (salaf) in delivering clear, succinct instruction without artificial verbosity or excessive digression .
Due to the time constraint of explaining ninety-nine hadiths within six days—requiring an average pace of sixteen to seventeen narrations per day—the commentary focuses on essential meanings, legal derivations, linguistic clarifications, and core pedagogical benefits aimed at students of Islamic knowledge . The text systematically covers the narrations sequentially across its ten parts, starting from foundational matters of faith and worship to social relations, legal maxims, and closing with narrations regarding steadfastness in religion in later times .
