- Sharh al-Tajrid al-Sarih li-Ahadith al-Jami al-Sahih - Abd al-Karim al-Khudayr
Sharh al-Tajrid al-Sarih li-Ahadith al-Jami al-Sahih is a contemporary Hadith commentary by the Saudi scholar Abd al-Karim al-Khudayr, delivered as audio lectures commenting on the summary of Sahih al-Bukhari compiled by Zayn al-Din Ahmad ibn Ahmad al-Sharji al-Zubaydi (d. 893 AH) .
Origin and Base Text
The commentary is based on al-Tajrid al-Sarih li-Ahadith al-Jami al-Sahih, in which al-Zubaydi abridged Sahih al-Bukhari to less than a quarter of its original length by stripping out repeated narrations and isnads while preserving the primary texts of the authentic traditions . Al-Khudayr presented his commentary as a broadcast program and lecture series while serving as a faculty member at Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University in Riyadh, after which the recorded lessons—spanning twenty-six transcribed lectures—were transcribed and made available on his official website .
Method and Scope
Al-Khudayr begins the work with an introductory overview addressing the authority of the prophetic Sunnah, its core compilations, and major commentary traditions . The text proceeds through the chapters and chapter headings of al-Zubaydi's compendium—including topics on faith (Kitab al-Iman) and pilgrimage (Kitab al-Hajj)—where al-Khudayr analyzes individual narrations .
His pedagogical approach combines:
- Linguistic and grammatical analysis: examining variant vocalizations and syntactic constructions in the text, such as vocalizing phrases in the hadith «من حج لله فلم يرفث ولم يفسق رجع كيوم ولدته أمه» ("Whoever performs Hajj for the sake of Allah without engaging in obscenity or sin returns as on the day his mother bore him") as either kayawma or kayawmi .
- Legal and doctrinal commentary: deriving jurisprudential rulings, ethical duties, and legal exceptions, alongside citations of earlier scholarly analyses such as those of Ibn al-Arabi on pilgrimage and family obligations .
