Mutun Talib al-Ilm - al-Idafiya - 3 is the third volume of the supplementary level in the Mutun Talib al-Ilm curricular series, edited and prepared by Abd al-Muhsin al-Qasim, Imam and Khatib of the Prophet's Mosque in Medina . The volume comprises the classical didactic poem on the rules of Quranic recitation (tajwid), al-Muqaddimah fima ala Qari' al-Qur'an an Ya'lamah (widely known as al-Muqaddimah al-Jazariyyah), by the Quranic scholar Ibn al-Jazari (d. 833 AH / 1429 CE) .
Contents and Scope
The volume is dedicated to Ibn al-Jazari's foundational versification on tajwid, composed of 107 lines in the rajaz meter . The text systematically outlines the essential phonetic and orthographic rules required for proper Quranic reading, covering the articulation points of Arabic letters (makharij al-huruf), their intrinsic attributes (sifat al-huruf), specific pronunciation rules (such as tarqiq, tafkhim, and the rulings of noon sakinah and tanwin), rules governing stopping and starting (al-waqf wa-al-ibtida'), connected and severed words in the Uthmanic script (al-maqtu' wa-al-mawsul), and the spelling of the feminine ta' .
Editorial Method and Pedagogical Purpose
The edition was established using several early manuscript copies, prominently including two historical manuscripts that were read directly to Ibn al-Jazari and preserve his handwriting and transmission licenses (ijazat) .
To facilitate student memorization, al-Qasim stripped this student text of manuscript variant footnotes and critical apparatus, recording all manuscript variations and editorial documentation in a separate expanded critical edition . The work forms part of the text-memorization curriculum administered through specialized study circles at the Prophet's Mosque and its affiliated distance learning platform .
