The work is attributed to Abu Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Abi Bakr al-Hajji al-Wadani, an inhabitant of Wadan whose lineage connects to al-Hajj Uthman and through him to the Ansar . In scholarly manuscripts and local traditions, the commentary is known under several alternative titles representing the same single work: Mawhub al-Jalil Sharh Mukhtasar Khalil, Mawahib al-Jalil Sharh Mukhtasar Khalil, Majma' al-Wadani, Majmu' al-Masa'il, and simply al-Majma' .
