Iqamat al-Dalil ala Ulu Rutbat Irwa al-Ghalil wa-al-Radd ala Mustadrak al-Ta'lil (Arabic: إقامة الدليل على علو رتبة إرواء الغليل والرد على مستدرك التعليل) is a contemporary work of hadith criticism by Abu Abd Allah Ahmad ibn Ibrahim ibn Abi al-Aynayn, written to defend Muhammad Nasir al-Din al-Albani's hadith collection Irwa al-Ghalil fi Takhrij Ahadith Manar al-Sabil against contemporary critiques .
Background and Purpose
The treatise was composed as a critical rejoinder to the book Mustadrak al-Ta'lil ala Irwa al-Ghalil by Dr. Ahmad al-Khalil . In it, Ibn Abi al-Aynayn examines the objections and supplementary criticisms (istidrakat) raised by al-Khalil against al-Albani's evaluation of narrations in Irwa al-Ghalil, asserting that al-Khalil erred in most of his critiques and that the correct determination rested with al-Albani .
Methodology and Orientation
While defending al-Albani, the author explicitly notes that this defense does not represent a call to blind following (taqlid), as that is contrary to their methodology . He affirms that evaluating hadith is an exercise in independent scholarly judgment (ijtihad), and differing with al-Albani on the grading of any specific narration does not diminish his scholarly standing .
Publication
The first edition was published in 1432 AH / 2011 CE by Maktabat Ibn Abbas in Egypt (with branches in Minyat Samannud, Mansoura, and Cairo) in collaboration with the Markaz al-Nu'man for Islamic Research, Studies, Heritage Verification, and Translation based in Sanaa, Yemen .
