Scholarly activity and methodology
Known by the kunya Abu Abd Allah, he has engaged in hadith verification and the editing of early biographical literature . He composed Iqamat al-Dalil ala Ulu Rutbat Irwa al-Ghalil wa-al-Radd ala Mustadrak al-Ta'lil ("Establishing the Proof for the High Rank of Irwa al-Ghalil and Refuting Mustadrak al-Ta'lil") to defend the hadith scholarship of Muhammad Nasir al-Din al-Albani against criticisms formulated by Ahmad al-Khalil . In his critique, he argued that defending al-Albani does not denote blind imitation (taqlid) and maintained that reaching differing conclusions on specific narrations remains subject to valid scholarly effort (ijtihad) .
In addition to contemporary hadith polemics, he prepared a published critical edition of the early biographical evaluation work al-Du'afa' ("The Weak Narrators") by al-Bukhari .
