Fath Dhi al-Jalal wal-Ikram bi Sharh Bulugh al-Maram (The Bestowal of the Lord of Majesty and Generosity in Explaining the Attainment of the Objective) is an extensive legal commentary by the Saudi jurist Muhammad ibn Salih al-Uthaymin (d. 1421 AH / 2001 CE) on the hadith manual Bulugh al-Maram min Adillat al-Ahkam by Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani (d. 852 AH / 1449 CE) .
Scope and Content
The base text, Bulugh al-Maram, is a classical compilation arranged according to chapters of Islamic jurisprudence, gathering the primary prophetic traditions concerning legal rulings (ahkam) from major hadith compendia such as the Sahihayn, the Sunan collections, and the Musnad of Ahmad ibn Hanbal . In Fath Dhi al-Jalal wal-Ikram, al-Uthaymin provides an analytical exposition of these traditions, expounding on the textual variants noted by Ibn Hajar, deducing juristic principles and practical rulings from the narrations, and addressing questions of ritual worship and transactions .
Editions and Publication
The work originated in the scholarly lessons and lectures delivered by al-Uthaymin and was subsequently transcribed and edited for publication:
- An early release comprising the initial portion—covering Ibn Hajar's introduction and the Book of Purification (Kitab al-Taharah)—was prepared, indexed, and documented by Ahmad and Sami, the sons of Muhammad ibn Hasan al-Khalil, and published by Dar al-Muslim in Riyadh (1st ed., 1416 AH / 1995–1996 CE) .
- A complete multi-volume edition was issued by Madar al-Watan in Riyadh (1st ed., 1425 AH / 2004 CE) .
- Another edition, edited and annotated by Subhi ibn Muhammad Ramadan and Umm Isra bint Arafah Bayyumi, was published by al-Maktabah al-Islamiyyah (1st ed., 1427 AH / 2006 CE) .
