Fatāwā Nūr ‘alā al-Darb is a multi-volume collection of legal and theological responsa by the Saudi scholar ‘Abd al-‘Azīz ibn ‘Abd Allāh ibn Bāz (d. 1420 AH / 1999 CE), compiled and organized by Muhammad ibn Sa‘d al-Shuway‘ir from the scholar’s radio broadcasts .

Origin and Compilation

The material consists of legal rulings delivered during Ibn Bāz's weekly episodes on the broadcast program Nūr ‘alā al-Darb ("Light on the Path"), where he answered questions submitted by listeners concerning personal conduct, mutual dealings, and religious duties .

Following his work preparing Ibn Bāz’s thirty-volume Majmū‘ Fatāwā wa-Maqālāt Mutanawwi‘ah ("Collected Fatwas and Miscellaneous Articles"), al-Shuway‘ir undertook the transcription, arrangement, and editing of the audio recordings from Nūr ‘alā al-Darb, which comprised 435 cassette tapes .

Structure and Methodology

The work is organized thematically according to traditional Islamic jurisprudential and doctrinal chapters, opening with the Book of Creed (Kitāb al-‘Aqīdah) and sections on monotheism (Tawḥīd) .

The rulings are characterized by direct derivation from the Quran and the Sunnah, giving precedence to textual proofs over scholarly opinion, while employing accessible phrasing tailored to both general listeners and scholars . Each ruling documents the original recording data, indexing the specific cassette and question number from which the response was extracted .

Verification

The collection contains an introductory endorsement from the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, ‘Abd al-‘Azīz ibn ‘Abd Allāh Āl al-Shaykh, who verified the transcription by having al-Shuway‘ir read the entirety of the compiled material aloud to him over regular sessions lasting several years .
