Fatawa Muhimma li Umum al-Umma (Important Fatwas for the General Muslim Community) is a compendium of Islamic legal rulings issued primarily by Abd al-Aziz ibn Baz (1330–1420 AH / 1912–1999 CE) addressing everyday religious questions and doctrinal matters relevant to the general Muslim public .
Authorship and Publication
While bibliographical listings attribute the work to Ibn Baz , standard published editions also compile verdicts from Muhammad ibn Salih al-Uthaymin alongside his responses . The collection was edited and prepared by Ibrahim al-Faris and issued in its first edition by Dar al-Asimah in Riyadh in 1413 AH (1992/1993 CE) .
Content and Scope
The collection provides legal and theological answers concerning daily religious obligations, contemporary practices, and transactions . Among the specific issues addressed in the text are:
- Travel Abroad: The legal rulings and strict criteria governing travel to non-Muslim countries, including the necessity of preserving one's religious practice .
- Remedies and Folk Practices: Rulings regarding medical treatments and occult practices, such as the prohibition against attempting to dispel sorcery through magic (hal al-sihr bi-mithlihi), emphasizing instead the use of lawful remedies and Quranic supplications .
