al-Wadih fi Ulum al-Quran (The Lucid Guide to the Sciences of the Quran) is a contemporary treatise on Quranic sciences co-authored by the Syrian scholars Mustafa Dib al-Bugha and Muhyi al-Din Mistu .

Authorship and Purpose

The authors completed the work in Damascus on 1 Dhu al-Hijjah 1416 AH (7 May 1996 CE) . They aimed to provide a structured, accessible presentation of Quranic disciplines using straightforward language while avoiding purely verbal disputes and formal disagreements that offer little practical benefit, keeping the reader focused on reflection, comprehension, and appreciation of the Quran's preservation and sanctity .

Structure and Content

The book opens with an introductory overview defining the discipline of Quranic sciences (ulum al-Quran) as studies pertaining to the revelation of the Quran, its arrangement, collection, orthography, recitations, clear and ambiguous verses (al-muhkam wa-l-mutashabih), abrogation (al-nasikh wa-l-mansukh), inimitability (i‘jaz), rhetorical style, and the refutation of doubts . This section also explores the scope, benefits, and historical development of the genre across the pre-compilation, formative, and compilation eras .

In addition to theoretical discussions, the work includes an applied practical section divided into two parts :

  • Seven applied analytical texts covering most of the preceding topics .
  • Texts for study accompanied by questions and practical exercises spanning all book topics, intended to help students engage with Quranic sciences methodically and hands-on .

Publication

The book was first published in 1417 AH jointly by Dar al-Ulum al-Insaniyyah and Dar al-Kalim al-Tayyib , followed by a second edition issued in Damascus in 1418 AH / 1998 CE .
