al-Taliq ala Risalat Haqiqat al-Siyam wa Kitab al-Siyam min al-Furu wa Masail Mukhtara minhu (Commentary on the Treatise on the Reality of Fasting, the Book of Fasting from al-Furu, and Selected Inquiries from It) is a legal work by Ibn Uthaymin (d. 1421 AH / 2001 CE) that gathers his commentaries on classical Hanbali texts governing the rulings and invalidators of fasting.
Contents and Background
The volume compiles three distinct components stemming from Ibn Uthaymin's teaching sessions in Unayzah and his private study:
- Commentary on Risalat Haqiqat al-Siyam: Delivered in Sha'ban 1417 AH as part of his scholarly lessons at his congregational mosque in Unayzah, commenting on the treatise on the reality of fasting by Ibn Taymiyyah (d. 728 AH). The primary text read during the lessons was from the version printed in Majmu Fatawa Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, collected by Ibn Qasim, while Ibn Uthaymin cross-referenced it with the edition published by al-Maktab al-Islami and noted textual variants between the two.
- Commentary on Kitab al-Siyam from al-Furu: Delivered in Sha'ban 1419 AH during his lessons, commenting on the section on fasting from al-Furu by Ibn Muflih (d. 763 AH).
- Selected Issues from al-Furu: A selection of legal problems (masail mukhtarah) from al-Furu recorded in Ibn Uthaymin's own hand during his reading of the book of fasting in Sha'ban 1391 AH, supplemented with further additions and notes on disputed questions concerning invalidators of fasting.
Compilation and Editing
In accordance with the guidelines established by Ibn Uthaymin for publishing his writings and lectures, the scholarly department at the Shaykh Muhammad ibn Salih al-Uthaymin Charitable Foundation prepared the material for publication. The work was reviewed by Sami ibn Muhammad al-Suqayr, and the foundation's scientific committee dated its release on 10 Sha'ban 1428 AH.
