al-Sahih al-Musnad min al-Ahadith al-Qudsiyya (The Authenticated Compilation of Divine Hadiths), also titled Sahih al-Ahadith al-Qudsiyya, is a contemporary hadith collection compiled by the Egyptian scholar Mustafa al-Adawi, gathering authentic divine narrations (ahadith qudsiyya) .
Purpose and Methodology
Al-Adawi compiled what was established as authentic in his view among divine hadiths—narrations in which the Prophet relates directly from God—noting that the genre is named in attribution to God's divine name al-Quddus (the Holy) . In the introduction, the author states that he presented the texts stripped of full chains of transmission (asanid) and lengthy commentaries, restricting himself to giving the critical grade for each hadith (such as sahih or hasan), attributing each report to some of its original collectors using standard abbreviations (such as kha' for al-Bukhari, mim for Muslim, ha'-mim for Ahmad ibn Hanbal, and nun for al-Nasa'i), and explaining difficult vocabulary in footnotes .
Structure and Contents
The collection contains 185 divine hadiths arranged under thematic chapter headings . These headings cover diverse subjects, including:
- The recording of good and bad deeds and divine mercy
- Quranic verses regarding divine accountability
- The punishment for corrupt intentions and insincerity
- The gravity of polytheism (shirk) and ostentation (riya')
Of the 185 hadiths in the work, 124 are sourced from the Six Books (al-Kutub al-Sittah), while 59 are drawn from other compilations . The latter group includes:
- 40 hadiths from Musnad Ahmad
- 5 hadiths from Sahih Ibn Hibban
- 3 hadiths from al-Hakim al-Naysaburi
- 1 hadith from Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili
- 1 hadith from Hilyat al-Awliya' by Abu Nu'aym al-Isfahani
- 1 hadith from Kitab al-Sunnah by Ibn Abi Asim .
Scope and Assessment
Scholarly surveys of the literature on divine hadiths note that al-Adawi committed himself to authentic, supported narrations as reflected in the title, though he did not state explicitly whether he intended to comprehensively gather every authentic divine narration or merely assemble a selected compilation . Reviewers noted that the collection does not encompass all extant divine hadiths found across the wider corpus of hadith literature . The work has been published in a single volume, including an edition issued by Dar al-Khuld .
