al-Sabika al-Dhahabiyya ala al-Manzuma al-Rahabiyya (The Golden Ingot on the Rahabi Poem) is a concise commentary on Islamic inheritance law (fara'id) by the Najdi scholar Faisal ibn Abd al-Aziz Al Mubarak (1313–1376 AH / 1896–1957 CE) . It serves as an explanatory gloss on al-Manzuma al-Rahabiyya, the didactic poem composed by Muhammad ibn Ali al-Rahbi (d. 577 AH, also reported as 775 AH) .

Content and Method

The work addresses core principles and issues of estate division as systematized in the Rahabiyya . Al-Mubarak, who studied the discipline under Abdullah ibn Rashid al-Jal'ud, structured the commentary to clarify essential definitions, rules of exclusion (hajb), shares of legal heirs, and practical calculation problems through concise phrasing and illustrative examples tailored for students .

The commentary is characterized by extreme brevity; scholar Abd al-Karim al-Khudayr noted that the text does not exceed roughly five leaves, making it beneficial for rapid review, though beginner and intermediate students typically rely on more expansive commentaries alongside it .

Publication History

The commentary was published across several printings and collections:

  • It was first printed in 1379 AH (1959 CE) by Mustafa al-Babi al-Halabi / al-Maktaba al-Ahliyya in Egypt in 32 pages .
  • It was reissued in al-Qasim by Dar al-Ulayan in 1406 AH .
  • It was included in the collection Majmu'at al-Rasa'il al-Kamaliyya fi al-Mawarith wa-al-Munasakhat published by Maktabat al-Ma'arif in Ta'if (second edition, 1407 AH) .
  • An edition edited by Abdullah ibn Abd al-Aziz al-Zaham, containing hadith documentation and explanatory notes, was published by Dar al-Arqam in Riyadh in 1419 AH (53 pages) .
  • It was edited by Muhammad ibn Hasan Al Mubarak and published by Dar Kunuz Ishbilya in Riyadh in 1427 AH (2006 CE) together with another inheritance treatise by the author, al-Hujaj al-Qati'a fi al-Mawarith al-Waqi'a, under the joint title Risalatan fi Ilm al-Fara'id . This edition relied on a surviving seven-folio manuscript copied during the author's lifetime—covering approximately three-fifths of the text up to the chapter on exclusion (bab al-hajb)—supplemented by the early Maktaba al-Ahliyya print for the remainder .
