al-Muyassar fi Sharh Masabih al-Sunnah (The Facilitator: A Commentary on the Lamps of the Sunnah) is a classical hadith commentary composed by Shihab al-Din al-Turbushti (d. 661 AH / 1263 CE) on the renowned hadith compendium Masabih al-Sunnah by Abu Muhammad al-Husayn ibn Mas'ud al-Baghawi.
Authorship and Purpose
The work was written by Abu 'Abd Allah Fadl Allah ibn al-Hasan ibn Husayn ibn Yusuf al-Turbishti (d. 661 AH). It serves as an exposition of al-Baghawi's Masabih al-Sunnah, elucidating the meanings, legal implications, and nuances of the prophetic traditions gathered in the parent work. In his introduction, al-Turbishti highlights the divine favor in clarifying the ambiguities of the legal proofs and facilitating the path to following the Sunnah and prophetic guidance.
Reception and Influence
al-Muyassar is regarded as one of the prominent early commentaries dedicated to Masabih al-Sunnah. Subsequent hadith scholars and commentators frequently cited and relied on al-Turbishti's explanations. When Ibn al-Malak compiled his commentary on Masabih al-Sunnah, he explicitly drew upon al-Muyassar, abridging and integrating al-Turbishti's commentary alongside other major works on the collection.
Publication
The work has been edited by 'Abd al-Hamid Hindawi and published by Maktabat Nizar Mustafa al-Baz.
