al-Mulakhkhas al-Fiqhi (The Jurisprudential Summary) is a contemporary handbook of Islamic jurisprudence by the Saudi scholar Salih al-Fawzan (b. 1354 AH / 1935 CE), presenting legal rulings supported by textual proofs from the Quran and the Sunnah .

Composition and Sources

The material originally formed a series of radio lectures delivered by al-Fawzan . Although he had not intended to publish the lessons while preparing the broadcast episodes, he subsequently reviewed, arranged, and published them in book form following repeated requests and insistence from listeners who wanted the benefit of the lectures to be preserved .

In compiling the book, al-Fawzan summarized the Hanbali legal commentary al-Rawd al-Murbi' (a commentary on Zad al-Mustaqni') along with its marginal gloss (Hashiyah) by Abd al-Rahman ibn Muhammad ibn Qasim, adding his own supplementary notes and comments where appropriate .

Structure and Contents

The work is organized according to the traditional sequence of Hanbali legal compendia, providing practical legal rulings accompanied by evidence from the Quran and the Sunnah . Its first volume is dedicated to the quarter of acts of worship (rub' al-'ibadat), opening with the Book of Purification (Kitab al-Taharah) as the essential prerequisite for ritual prayer . Subsequent sections address transactions and other areas of Islamic law, including commercial dealings, land reclamation (ihya al-mawat), gifts, and financial dispositions made during serious illness .

Reception

Al-Mulakhkhas al-Fiqhi is widely utilized as an accessible primer for lay Muslims and beginner students of knowledge seeking an uncomplicated exposition of essential legal rulings and duties . It is regularly included among recommended starter texts in modern study programs for Islamic jurisprudence .
