Al-Mujiza al-Quraniyya: Haqaiq Ilmiyya Qati'a (The Quranic Miracle: Definitive Scientific Facts) is a contemporary work on the inimitability, scientific dimensions, and numerical structure of the Quran by Ahmad Umar Abu Shufa .

Composition and Preface

Abu Shufa noted that he arrived at the premise of the work fourteen centuries and fourteen years after the Hijra (1414 AH / c. 1993–1994 CE), taking the disjointed luminous letters (al-huruf al-nuraniyya al-muqatta'a) at the openings of Quranic surahs as a primary focal point . He also observed that the total number of letters comprising his own name and title corresponded to the count of these disjointed letters .

The book features an introductory preface written at the author's request by Dr. Ahmad Dallu . In his review, Dallu outlined the scope of the treatise, highlighting its concise treatment of the Quran's meanings and inimitability alongside extensive textual evidence from the Quran and the Sunnah .

Scope and Subject Matter

The work addresses multiple facets of Quranic inimitability (i'jaz):

  • The Nature and Facets of Miracles: It provides definitions for the Quranic miracle, delineates the types and conditions of miracles, and discusses various aspects of inimitability supported by Quranic verses and certain scientific cosmic facts .
  • Literary and Rhetorical Structure: It examines the phrasing, syntactic firmness, eloquence, and compositional harmony of the Quranic text, along with vivid portrayal and personification (al-taswir wa-l-tashkhis al-hayy) and the psychological impact of the text on human hearts .
  • Legal and Ethical Principles: It discusses the loftiness, comprehensiveness, and flexibility of Islamic legislation, contrasting realism with idealism in legal rulings, and addressing the foundational principles of justice, benevolence, and moderation .
  • Quranic Orthography: It explores the inimitability of Quranic script (rasm al-Quran), its specific forms and classifications, maintaining that the traditional orthography is divinely ordained (tawqifi) .
  • Numerical Inimitability (al-I'jaz al-'Adadi): It offers a detailed examination of numbers appearing in the Quran, categorizing them into single digits (1–10), compound numbers (11–19), decades (20–90), hundreds, thousands, and fractions, while deriving interpretive conclusions and calculations from these numerical occurrences .
