Ahmad Umar Abu Shufa is a contemporary Islamic writer and scholar best known for his work on the miraculous nature and scientific aspects of the Quran, al-Mujiza al-Quraniyya: Haqaiq Ilmiyya Qati'a (The Quranic Miracle: Definitive Scientific Facts).
Scholarly Focus and Contribution
Abu Shufa focused his scholarship on the themes of Quranic inimitability (iʿjāz), combining linguistic analysis, legal theory, and scientific inquiry. In his study of the Quran, he defined the nature and conditions of miracles and demonstrated various facets of Quranic inimitability through evidence drawn from the Quran, the prophetic Sunnah, and established cosmic scientific facts.
Abu Shufa also examined the structural eloquence and phrasing of the Quranic text, its psychological impact on the human soul, and the principles of Islamic legislation—highlighting its balance between idealism and realism, as well as its core values of justice, benevolence, and moderation. In the field of Quranic sciences, he maintained that the traditional orthography of the Quran (rasm al-Qurʾān) is divinely ordained (tawqīfī). Additionally, he engaged with numerical inimitability (al-iʿjāz al-ʿadadī), providing detailed analyses of single numbers, compound numbers, decade numbers, hundreds, and thousands appearing in the text.
His primary work was introduced and commended by the scholar Ahmad Dallu, who praised its precision, conciseness, and depth of analysis regarding the Quranic sciences and scientific realities.
