al-Mawsu‘a fi Sahih al-Sira al-Nabawiyya – al-‘Ahd al-Makki (The Encyclopedia of the Authentic Prophetic Biography – The Meccan Period) is a biographical reference work on the life of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ during the Meccan era, authored by Abu Ibrahim Muhammad ibn Ilyas al-Falawdha (d. 1440 AH / 2018–2019 CE) .

Purpose and Scope

The work focuses on the Meccan phase of the Prophet's life, documenting its events strictly through sound and authentic narrations . In addition to the historical narrative, the book addresses the virtues of the Prophet ﷺ, the merits of his community (ummah), his names, his lineage, and biographical sketches of the Companions born during the prophetic era .

Methodology and Sources

Al-Falawdha arranged the historical events of the sira in strict chronological sequence, placing emphasis on recording exact geographical locations and temporal details—by day, month, and year whenever determinable .

In authenticating hadiths and establishing their grades of reliability, the author relied on:

  • Hadith authentication: The evaluations of classical hadith masters (al-huffaz), alongside modern verifiers, notably Muhammad Nasir al-Din al-Albani, Shu'ayb al-Arna'ut, and Husayn Salim Asad .
  • Prophetic virtues and characteristics: Khalil Ibrahim Mulla Khatir's ‘Azim Qadrihi wa-Rif‘at Makanatihi ‘inda Rabbihi and Mahabbat al-Rasul wa-Ta‘atuhu bayna al-Insan wa-l-Jamad, as well as al-Khasa'is al-Kubra by Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti in the abridgment and verification of ‘Abd Allah al-Talidi .
  • Biographies of the Companions: al-Dhahabi's Siyar A‘lam al-Nubala’ (Biographies of Noble Figures) for entries on Companions born during the lifetime of the Prophet ﷺ .
