Abu Ibrahim Muhammad ibn Ilyas al-Falawdha (d. 1440 AH / 2018–2019 CE) was a contemporary Islamic scholar and researcher specializing in the Prophetic biography, best known for his biographical compilation al-Mawsu‘a fi Sahih al-Sira al-Nabawiyya – al-‘Ahd al-Makki (The Encyclopedia of the Authentic Prophetic Biography – The Meccan Period) .
Scholarly Approach and Methodology
Al-Falawdha focused on documenting the life and mission of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ by establishing a chronologically arranged narrative supported by authenticated reports . His historiographical method prioritized the chronological sequence of historical occurrences, with explicit attention to temporal details—specifying the day, month, and year whenever possible—and precise geographical locations .
In evaluating and authenticating hadith narrations, he relied on early hadith masters for classical judgements, while drawing extensively upon the critical findings of contemporary hadith scholars, notably Muhammad Nasir al-Din al-Albani, Shu'ayb al-Arna'ut, and Husayn Salim Asad . For biographical notices of the Companions born during the lifetime of the Prophet ﷺ, he drew primarily upon al-Dhahabi's biographical compendium Siyar A'lam al-Nubala' (Biographies of Eminent Figures) . In compiling the virtues of the Prophet ﷺ and his community, he utilized works by contemporary researchers such as Khalil Ibrahim Mulla Khatir as well as Abdullah al-Talidi's edition of al-Suyuti's al-Khasa'is al-Kubra (The Major Distinctive Virtues) .
