al-Khulasa al-Fiqhiyya 'ala Madhhab al-Sada al-Malikiyya is a didactic manual of jurisprudence (fiqh) according to the Maliki school, authored by Muhammad al-Arabi al-Qarawi al-Maliki.

Background and Purpose

In the preface of the book, the author states that after the initial demand from students caused the earliest print run to sell out within months, scholars and school directors requested a reissue. This prompted him to revise, reorganize, and present the work in a modern educational format suited for contemporary students, aiming to foster a firmly rooted legal aptitude.

Methodology and Structure

The work is characterized by two distinct pedagogical features:

  1. Presenting legal topics through a question-and-answer format (su'al wa-jawab), intended to familiarize students with asking questions and formulating answers, keeping their attention engaged rather than presenting static enumerations of legal cases.
  2. Following each chapter with a summary (khulasa) that brings together its primary legal rulings in succinct and clear language.

The text begins with the chapter on purification (al-Tahara), defining major and minor ritual impurities, categories of water, and the obligatory and recommended elements of ablution (wudu').

Publication

The book was published in Rabat in a 268-page edition, and has also been issued in Beirut by Dar al-Kutub al-Ilmiyya.
