al-Kanz al-Thamin fi Sualat Ibn Sunayd li-Ibn Uthaymin (The Precious Treasure in Ibn Sunayd's Questions to Ibn Uthaymin) is a collection of legal and theological rulings issued by the Saudi scholar Muhammad ibn Salih al-Uthaymin (d. 1421 AH / 2001 CE) in response to inquiries posed by Fahd ibn Abd Allah ibn Ibrahim al-Sunayd.

Compilation and Background

The work was compiled and prepared by Fahd ibn Abd Allah ibn Ibrahim al-Sunayd, who posed a total of 777 questions to Ibn Uthaymin over the telephone across an eleven-year period, beginning in 1410 AH and continuing until 1421 AH. The compiler stated that his objective was to publish and disseminate these fatwas to ensure broad public benefit.

Structure and Contents

The questions are organized thematically according to the standard chapters of Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh), while also addressing Quranic exegesis (tafsir), Hadith reconciliation and terminology, Arabic linguistic nuances, and matters of Islamic creed (aqidah). Al-Sunayd supplied source referencing (takhrij) for the Prophetic traditions and historical reports mentioned in the responses. In addition to Ibn Uthaymin's rulings, the compiler occasionally recorded comparative opinions from Sheikh Abd al-Aziz ibn Baz on certain legal issues.
