al-Inbah ila Hukm Tarik al-Salat (Alerting to the Ruling on the One Who Abandons Prayer) is a legal treatise by the contemporary Saudi scholar Abu Muhammad Abd Allah bin Mani al-Ruqi (also known as al-Utaybi) examining the status and theological-jurisprudential rulings regarding the abandonment of ritual prayer in Islamic law .
Composition and Context
The treatise was the first book authored by Abd Allah bin Mani al-Ruqi . In 1411 AH (c. 1990–1991 CE), the author read the text alongside its companion work, Malhuzat ala Kitab al-Salat (Observations on the Book of Prayer), to his teacher Isma'il al-Ansari, who provided handwritten emendations and unique notes on the research .
Subject Matter and Method
The work addresses the supreme status of prayer as the foundational pillar of Islam and the primary deed for which a person will be held accountable, citing traditions stating that the abandonment of prayer entails disbelief (kufr) . Al-Ruqi structures his discussion around selections from the writings of Ibn Taymiyyah, highlighting the theological parameters governing the excommunication (dabit takfir) of those who neglect the prayer .
The treatise examines scholarly consensus and divergence over abandoning the fundamental pillars of Islam after acknowledging their obligation . It details the various juristic positions—chiefly recorded within the reports attributed to Ahmad ibn Hanbal and other early authorities—concerning whether apostasy is incurred by abandoning any single pillar, none of them, prayer exclusively, or prayer together with the alms-tax (zakat) . It further elaborates the distinction between apparent outward disbelief (al-kufr al-zahir) and inward spiritual disbelief (al-kufr al-batin) in relation to the definition of faith as both speech and action .
Publication and Reception
The book was first published in 1412 AH (c. 1991–1992 CE) by Dar Ibn Khuzaymah in Riyadh, printed in a single volume followed immediately by al-Ruqi's critique of the positions of Muhammad Nasir al-Din al-Albani, entitled Malhuzat ala Kitab al-Salat li-l-Allamah Muhammad Nasir al-Din al-Albani . Both al-Inbah and its appended observations have been characterized in bibliographical literature as valuable research treatises on the subject .
