al-Ghurar al-Naqiyya ala al-Durar al-Bahiyya (The Pure Highlights upon the Radiant Pearls) is a concise legal commentary by the Najdi scholar and judge Faisal Al Mubarak (1313–1376 AH / 1895–1957 CE) on the legal primer al-Durar al-Bahiyya fi al-Masa'il al-Fiqhiyya by Muhammad ibn Ali al-Shawkani (1172–1250 AH) .

Context and Purpose

Al-Mubarak composed the commentary toward the end of his life while residing in Sakaka in the region of al-Jawf . It formed part of an instructional compendium of legal and religious primers he compiled for students of Islamic law, titled Zubdat al-Kalam fi al-Usul wa-al-Adab wa-al-Ahkam (The Cream of Discourse on Principles, Manners, and Rulings) . Al-Mubarak arranged the compilation into eight progressive texts, placing his commentary on al-Shawkani's al-Durar al-Bahiyya in the sixth position, between commentaries on Bulugh al-Maram and a treatise on legal theory (usul al-fiqh) . He designed the compendium to equip students with clear foundational rulings and evidence before advancing to more complex secondary disputes .

Method and Scope

The work is written in the style of concise glosses and observations (ta'liqat, tanbihat, and ta'aqqubat) interspersed throughout the original text of al-Shawkani's primer . Al-Mubarak explains the wording of the base text, highlights points of consensus and disagreement among classical jurists, and provides brief evidential reasoning based on hadith proofs .

Manuscript and Publication

The commentary survived in the author's own handwriting as part of the three-volume manuscript of Zubdat al-Kalam, preserved in the King Fahd National Library in Riyadh (under the Huraymila Library collection) and in a photographic copy at the King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives (Darah) .

The work was first published as an independent volume in 1426 AH / 2005 CE by Dar Kunuz Ishbilya in Riyadh, edited by Muhammad ibn Hasan ibn Abd Allah Al Mubarak in 113 pages .
