al-Ahadith al-Suba'iyat al-Alf (Arabic: الأحاديث السباعيات الألف, lit. 'The Thousand Seven-Link Hadiths') is a hadith compilation based on the transmissions of the Nishapuri traditionist Abu al-Qasim Zahir ibn Tahir al-Shahami (446–533 AH / 1054–1138 CE) .
Composition and Scope
The collection comprises one thousand hadiths transmitted with seven-narrator chains of transmission (suba'iyyat), an elevated chain length (uluww al-isnad) relative to the author's era . The extraction (takhrij) of these traditions from al-Shahami's original audited texts (usul masmu'at) was executed by Muhammad ibn Kharqi ibn Muhammad ibn Mu'adh al-Sahari al-Yamani . Biographers such as al-Dhahabi noted al-Shahami's selection of the suba'iyyat and similar compilations as a testament to his extensive engagement with hadith transmission .
Transmission and Manuscripts
The compilation was transmitted across several regions by al-Shahami's students. Among those who received and related al-Alf al-Suba'iyat directly from him was the Isfahan mosque leader Abu Abd Allah Mahmud ibn Ahmad al-Mudari al-Thaqafi (d. 606 AH / 1209 CE), as documented by Ibn Nuqtah .
The text was organized into multiple parts (ajza'). Several original fascicles survive in manuscript form, preserved primarily in the Zahiriyya collection in Damascus (within al-Majami' al-'Umariyya), including parts 1 and 2 (Majmu' 89, fols. 260–275) as well as parts 5, 6, 7, and 8 (Majmu' 19 / 3756, fols. 78–96) .
