Yusuf bin Jawda al-Dawudi is a contemporary Egyptian scholar of Hadith and academic, associated with Al-Azhar University and known for his specialized studies in hadith criticism and terminology .
Academic Career and Scholarship
Abu Abd al-Rahman Yusuf ibn Jawda ibn Yasin al-Dawudi earned his doctorate in Islamic studies and served on the academic faculty of the Faculty of Usul al-Din and Islamic Dawah in Menoufia at Al-Azhar University . He also taught as a faculty member at Taibah University in Medina .
His scholarship centers primarily on prophetic tradition, particularly the science of hidden defects (ʿilal), narrator evaluation (rijāl), and hadith nomenclature. In the domain of critical analysis, he examined the methodology of early traditionists in Manhaj al-Imām al-Dāraquṭnī fī Naqd al-Ḥadīth fī Kitāb al-ʿIlal ("The Methodology of Imam al-Daraqutni in Hadith Criticism in Kitab al-Ilal") . He also contributed to hadith compilation with al-Jāmiʿ al-Ṣaḥīḥ fīmā kāna ʿalā Sharṭ al-Shaykhayn aw Aḥadihimā wa-lam Yukhrijāhu, which collects authentic narrations meeting the transmission criteria of al-Bukhari and Muslim that were omitted from their two primary canonical works .
