Yasir Husayn Burhami is a contemporary Egyptian Salafi preacher and scholar based in Alexandria, known for his leadership within the Salafi movement and his supervisory role over Islamic educational initiatives.
Religious Activities and Teaching
Burhami has been a prominent figure in the Alexandria-based Salafi Call (al-Daʿwah al-Salafiyyah). In addition to holding regular public lectures and weekly teaching sessions in areas such as al-Dikhaylah, he was affiliated with the movement's al-Furqan Institute for Preachers, which operated from 1986 until its closure in 1994. He also supervises the Salafi religious platform and fatwa website Sawt al-Salaf (The Voice of the Salaf).
In his written output on creed and exhortation, Burhami authored marginalia on early theological texts, including Fadl al-Ghani al-Hamid, which provides critical annotations on Kitab al-Tawhid, as well as ethical treatises such as Minnat al-Rahman fi Nasihat al-Ikhwan. He has also provided introductory recommendations and prefaces for various contemporary Islamic studies.
Legal Positions and Controversies
Burhami's legal opinions and theological views have frequently generated debate among religious circles and the public:
- Ritual timings and observances: He endorsed legal opinions regarding the precise timing of the true dawn (al-fajr al-sadiq) that diverged from Egypt's standard official prayer schedules, advising mosques to delay the second call to prayer accordingly, which led to local public pushback in some congregations. He also ruled that Mother's Day is an unlawful innovation (bidʿah) and stated that schoolteachers should not accept celebratory gifts on that occasion.
- Social ethics and gender segregation: Citing concerns over illicit gender mixing (ikhtilat) in schools and universities, Burhami advised religiously observant women to abstain from co-educational academic institutions and remain at home to preserve religious modesty.
- Theological debates and critiques: His discourses on faith (iman) and the status of bodily actions sparked discussions among contemporary students of knowledge regarding whether physical deeds represent an essential pillar or a condition of completeness for salvation. Burhami faced criticism from opposing Salafi factions; notably, preacher Talaat Zahran publicly denounced him, accusing him of misguidance and harboring takfiri tendencies.

List of Works
Adab al-Khilaf (The Etiquette of Disagreement) is a contemporary Islamic treatise addressing the jurisprudence and behavioral ethics governing intellectual and religious differences among Muslims. The work examines internal discord among Islamic groups over daʿwah methods and priorities, framing differences in thought as a divinely decreed trial while outlining categories of permissible and blameworthy disagreement.
Durus lil-Shaykh Yasir Barhami (Lessons of Sheikh Yasir Barhami) is a collection of transcribed audio lessons, sermons, and lectures delivered in Alexandria and across Egypt. The compilations address a broad range of Islamic disciplines and contemporary issues from a Salafi perspective, covering creed and methodology, practical jurisprudence and legal rulings, and spiritual exhortations for students of Islamic knowledge.
al-Furqan bayna Awliya al-Rahman wa Awliya al-Shaytan 1 is a commentary on the classic theological treatise of the same title by Ibn Taymiyyah (d. 728 AH / 1328 CE). It explicates Islamic creed regarding the distinction between the true allies of God and the allies of the devil, setting forth the scriptural standard of faith and piety required for divine alliance while countering false claims to sainthood.
al-Qasas al-Qurani (Quranic Stories) is a work compiled from Islamic lectures that examines scriptural narratives of prophets and past nations from the Quran and the Sunnah. Approaching storytelling as a source of doctrinal, spiritual, and da'wah guidance rather than mere historical reporting, it explores themes of servanthood to God, steadfastness during hardship, and the true meaning of victory.
