Walid al-Saidi, known with the kunya Abu Wada'ah, is a contemporary scholar of hadith known for his commentary work on the three-tier chains (thulathiyat) in Sahih al-Bukhari .

Scholarly Work

His full name is Abu Wada'ah Walid ibn Subhi al-Saidi . In the field of hadith literature, he authored Tahbir al-Wurayqat bi-Sharh al-Thulathiyat ("Inking the Small Pages: An Explanation of the Three-Tier Narrations"), a concise analytical commentary on the narrations possessing three-narrator chains between Muhammad al-Bukhari and the Prophet ﷺ .

Rather than adhering strictly to the topical chapter sequence of Sahih al-Bukhari, al-Saidi structured his commentary by reorganizing the twenty-two thulathi hadiths according to the musnads of the three transmitting Companions: Salamah ibn al-Akwa', Anas ibn Malik, and Abd Allah ibn Busr . His work incorporates biographical profiles and evaluations of individual transmitters in each chain, alongside textual and legal explanations of each narration . In addition to the authentic three-tier chains of the Sahih, he dedicated portions of his study to examining chains in Sahih al-Bukhari that merely appear to be three-tier due to suspension (ta'liq) or omission (irsal), as well as three-narrator chains occurring in al-Bukhari's al-Adab al-Mufrad .
