Suhayb bin Abd al-Ghaffar Hasan is an Islamic scholar and researcher based in London, known for his contributions to Hadith studies and the documentation of English-language Hadith literature.
Career and Research
Hasan served as an envoy and representative of the General Presidency of Scholarly Research and Ifta (رياسة البحوث العلمية والإفتاء والدعوة والإرشاد) in Great Britain. During his tenure in London, he contributed reports and legal inquiries regarding Islamic slaughtering practices in Western and British abattoirs to the Ifta committee.
In 1991, he completed his doctoral studies at the University of Birmingham with a dissertation entitled The Concept of Mahdi among Muslims with reference to Kitab Al-Fitan by Nu’aim bin Hammad. His scholarly work focused on Hadith criticism and bibliography, including his 1984 study Criticism of Hadith among the Traditionists with Reference to Sunan Ibn Maja. In 1424 AH (2003 CE), he compiled Biblughrafiya li-Kutub al-Hadith wa al-Sunna bi al-Lugha al-Inkiliziyya, a reference bibliography surveying English translations and academic literature on the Prophetic Sunnah. In its introduction, he highlighted the growing body of Hadith literature in English while noting that many works by contemporary traditionists such as Muhammad Nasir al-Din al-Albani had remained largely untranslated, with exceptions such as the English translation of The Prophet's Prayer by his son, Dr. Usama Hasan.
