Early life and education

Salim ibn 'Id ibn Muhammad ibn Husayn al-Hilali traces his lineage to the Arabian tribe of Bani Hilal, originating in Najd . His ancestors relocated to Beersheba, and following the 1948 Palestinian displacement, his family settled in Hebron, where he was born in 1377 AH / 1957 CE . In 1387 AH / 1967 CE, he migrated with his family to Jordan, where he completed his formal primary and secondary schooling . He then studied at a faculty of science before continuing his education in Arabic language and Islamic studies .

Scholarly career and teachers

Al-Hilali pursued traditional Islamic studies under scholars including Badi al-Din al-Rashidi and regarded Muhammad Nasir al-Din al-Albani as his principal teacher . His research has focused on hadith extraction (takhrij), textual verification (tahqiq), and theological discourse within the Salafi-Athari tradition . Together with Muhammad ibn Musa Al Nasr, he compiled and evaluated the transmitted reports concerning the circumstances of Quranic revelation in al-Istiab fi Bayan al-Asbab . He also produced Ujala al-Raghib al-Mutamanni, a critical edition and hadith verification of Ibn al-Sunni's classical supplication manual Amal al-Yawm wa-al-Layla .

Standing and reception

Al-Hilali was praised by several prominent contemporary Salafi figures, including al-Albani, Rabi al-Madkhali—for whose treatise on methodological critique al-Hilali wrote an introduction—and Muqbil ibn Hadi al-Wadi'i in his work al-Makhraj min al-Fitnah . The Saudi jurist Bakr Abu Zayd likewise cited al-Hilali's treatise al-Manhal al-Raqraq when documenting contemporary scholarly refutations of textual misinterpretations and distortions .
