Omar Abd al-Rahman al-Sarisi (d. 1434 AH / 2012–2013 CE) was a modern scholar and researcher of Arabic language and Islamic heritage, known for his studies on the linguistic and intellectual legacy of al-Raghib al-Isfahani .
Academic Activities and Research
Al-Sarisi was active in academic committees, including serving on the preparatory and administrative panels for the Islamic literature symposium held at the Islamic University of Madinah in Rajab 1402 AH .
His scholarly research focused heavily on classical linguistics and textual criticism. He authored al-Raghib al-Isfahani wa Juhuduhu fi al-Lugha (al-Raghib al-Isfahani and His Contributions to Linguistics), an academic study examining the life, linguistic contributions, and poetry of al-Raghib al-Isfahani . He also edited classical treatises, including al-Raghib's Risala fi Dhikr al-Wahid al-Ahad (Treatise on Mentioning the One and Only), in which he analyzed al-Raghib's theological orientation and examined biographical claims by Shi'i authors concerning his sectarian affiliation .
Al-Sarisi participated in prominent academic debates regarding the attribution of classical texts. In articles published in the journals of the Arabic Language Academy in Damascus and the Jordan Academy of Arabic, he argued that the Quranic stylistic work Durrat al-Tanzil wa-Ghurrat al-Ta'wil (The Pearl of Revelation and the Forehead of Interpretation) was authored by al-Raghib al-Isfahani rather than al-Khatib al-Iskafi . This thesis prompted academic responses and counterarguments from other researchers, such as Ahmad Farhat, who disputed al-Sarisi's attribution and defended alternative readings of the textual evidence .
