Mansur Nasif (d. after 1371 AH / 1951 CE) was an Egyptian hadith scholar and teacher at al-Azhar, best known for compiling the hadith collection al-Taj al-Jami' lil-Usul fi Ahadith al-Rasul ("The Crown That Gathers the Fundamentals in the Traditions of the Messenger") .

Life and Career

Mansur ibn Ali Nasif was an Egyptian scholar affiliated with al-Azhar who served as an instructor at the Zaynabi Mosque in Cairo . Detailed biographical records of his early upbringing and precise dates remain sparse; he lived into the fourteenth Islamic century and died after 1371 AH (1951 CE) .

Scholarly Contribution and Reception

Nasif contributed to modern hadith organization by preparing al-Taj al-Jami' lil-Usul fi Ahadith al-Rasul, a five-volume work comprising 5,887 traditions . The compilation brings together narrations from five major canonical collections—Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Sunan Abi Dawud, Jami al-Tirmidhi, and al-Mujtaba of al-Nasa'i—while omitting chains of transmission and setting aside the collection of Ibn Majah . Along the margins of the work, he provided his own commentary, entitled Ghayat al-Ma'mul fi Sharh al-Taj al-Jami' lil-Usul ("The Utmost Hope: A Commentary on the Crown That Gathers the Fundamentals"), to elucidate difficult phrasing and summarize the legal perspectives of the major schools of Islamic jurisprudence .

The work received favorable reception among contemporary scholars; Muhammad Bakhit al-Muti'i, the former Grand Mufti of Egypt, praised its clear arrangement, solid style, accessible language, and coverage of practical legal topics and Islamic ethics .
