Ibrahim bin Said al-Subayhi (also known by the kunya Abu Anas) is a contemporary scholar and researcher in hadith studies, best known for his multi-volume reference work on the hadith methodology and narrator evaluations of Abd al-Rahman ibn Yahya al-Mu'allimi .

Scholarly Contribution

Al-Subayhi's principal scholarly endeavor is Mawsu'at al-Mu'allimi al-Yamani wa-Atharuhu fi 'Ilm al-Hadith, titled al-Nukat al-Jiyad al-Muntakhaba min Kalam Shaykh al-Nuqqad ("The Choicest Critical Notes Selected from the Words of the Master Critic") . The four-volume work systematically compiles, classifies, and examines al-Mu'allimi's contributions to hadith criticism, transmitter assessment (al-jarh wa-l-ta'dil), and hidden defects ('ilal) .

The work is organized into distinct divisions:

  • The first part gathers the biographical evaluations and remarks al-Mu'allimi made concerning individual transmitters, followed by scholarly benefits extracted from his marginal annotations .
  • The second part details the methodologies of various classical critics and compilers as analyzed through al-Mu'allimi's writings .
  • The third part outlines the theoretical and inductive rules underlying al-Mu'allimi's critical approach . It concludes with appendices examining selected historical reports subjected to criticism, as well as the methodology and procedures for editing classical manuscripts against their original codices .

The encyclopedia was published in Riyadh by Dar Tayba in 1431 AH (2010 CE), following an earlier edition published in 1999 CE .
