Hamad al-Hamad (Hamad ibn Abd Allah al-Hamad) is a contemporary scholar and jurist specializing in Hanbali jurisprudence and Hadith criticism, recognized for his instructional circles and commentaries on classical legal manuals such as Zad al-Mustaqni'.
Teaching and Educational Career
Al-Hamad conducted extensive instructional circles dedicated to Hanbali legal manuals. His regular commentary series on Musa al-Hajjawi's Zad al-Mustaqni' began after the Maghrib prayer on Sunday, 8 Shawwal 1414 AH, and was held nightly throughout the week except on Thursday and Friday nights. His lessons, which covered the entirety of the manual from the chapter of purification through acknowledgment (iqrar), were transcribed and recorded by students such as Abu Hafiz Abd al-Aziz al-Ghaslan and disseminated digitally.
Scholarly Standing and Method
In his legal pedagogy, al-Hamad emphasizes clarifying textual expressions, conceptualizing legal scenarios, presenting textual proofs, and providing ample illustrative examples to facilitate comprehension. The contemporary Hanbali scholar Ahmad ibn Nasir al-Qu'aymi noted that al-Hamad's commentary reflects both jurisprudential acumen and high competence in Hadith scholarship through his detailed examination of textual proofs and his grading of their authenticity and weakness. Al-Qu'aymi ranked his commentary on Zad al-Mustaqni' as second in importance among contemporary explanations only to that of Khalid al-Mushayqih. In addition to this work, al-Hamad delivered instructional lessons on other classical legal manuals, including Mar'i ibn Yusuf al-Karmi's Dalil al-Talib.
