Abu Hamza Ghazi bin Salim Aflah is a contemporary Islamic scholar and hadith researcher who studied at the Islamic University of Madinah and authored works on Islamic creed and hadith analysis, including Rayy al-Zaman bi-Majalis Shuab al-Iman.
Education and Scholarly Activity
Aflah is also known with the nisba al-Badawi. He pursued his higher education at the Faculty of Hadith and Islamic Studies at the Islamic University of Madinah, where he completed a specialized hadith study on the transmission chains and textual variants of the narration regarding the man who prayed incorrectly (hadith al-musi' salatahu), titled al-Najm al-Mudi bi Dhikr Riwayat wa Alfaz Hadith al-Musi. The academic research was supervised by Associate Professor Dr. Abdullah bin Atiq al-Matrafi and approved with an excellent distinction in 1422 AH.
In teaching, Aflah delivered an extensive instructional series based on al-Bayhaqi's Shu'ab al-Iman (The Branches of Faith), later published as Rayy al-Zaman bi-Majalis Shu'ab al-Iman. The work spanned more than one hundred teaching sessions—thirty-seven of which addressed the six fundamental pillars of faith according to the understanding of the early generations (salaf)—focusing on authentic narrations and transmitted scriptural exegesis while omitting unauthentic reports. He also prepared a didactic commentary on monotheism titled Rasm al-Widad fi Idah Tuhfat al-Awlad fi Tawhid Rabb al-Ibad, completed in Safar 1434 AH (January 2013 CE), drawing upon doctrinal works by scholars such as Muhammad ibn Salih al-Uthaymin and Salih bin Abdul Aziz Al al-Shaykh.
Scholarly Reception
Aflah's pedagogical writings received commendations and introductory prefaces from several contemporary scholars, including Dr. Rashad bin Hammud al-Hazmi, Dr. Aziz bin Farhan al-Anazi, Shaykh Abdul Aziz bin Yahya al-Bur'i, Shaykh Nu'man bin Abdul Karim al-Watar, and Shaykh Muhammad bin Abdullah Ba Musa. Reviewers noted his accessible instructional presentation, reliance on verified textual proofs, and systematic exposition of theological concepts.
