Abu Nusayya al-Tamimi, whose full name is Ali ibn Muhammad Abu Nusayya al-Tamimi, is a contemporary writer known for his treatise on interpersonal ethics, Al-Itab bayn al-Asdiqa (Reproach Between Friends), published in 1432 AH (2011 CE).

Background and Literary Contribution

In the preface to his work, Abu Nusayya relates that he was prompted to compose Al-Itab bayn al-Asdiqa following a personal incident in which an associate believed fabricated rumors alleging that Abu Nusayya had satirized him. Rather than seeking direct clarification or offering mutual reproach to resolve the misunderstanding, the companion aired grievances publicly, prompting Abu Nusayya to address the social ethics and proper practice of admonition among peers.

Abu Nusayya draws on classical Arabic literature, lexical definitions, and ethical guidance to differentiate between hostile confrontation and amicable reproach, defining the latter as an expression of esteem and an effort to maintain affection. Citing figures such as Ibn Hazm and traditional poetic sources, he articulates practical principles for interpersonal reconciliation, emphasizing gentleness, avoiding excessive faultfinding, reserving admonition for necessary moments, and accepting apologies to preserve companionship.
