Abu Bakr Fawzi (full name Abu Bakr ibn Muhammad Fawzi; fl. 1427–1428 AH / 2006–2007 CE) is a contemporary scholar of Quranic studies and thematic exegesis (al-tafsir al-mawdu'i), known for his study on the underlying divine wisdoms in legal Quranic verses, al-Hikam min al-Muʿamalat wa-l-Mawarith wa-l-Nikah wa-l-Atʿimah fi Ayat al-Qurʾan al-Karim .
Academic Work and Methodology
Fawzi prepared his master's thesis during the 1427–1428 AH academic year under the supervision of Dr. Abdullah ibn Muhammad al-Amin al-Shinqiti . His research focuses on thematic exegesis, specifically deducing the divine wisdoms (al-hikam)—both immediate and long-term—underlying legal rulings across four major areas: financial transactions, inheritance, marriage, and dietary laws .
In organizing these legal subjects, Fawzi followed the chapter arrangement of Ibn Qudamah's Hanbali legal handbook, Umdat al-Fiqh . His scholarly methodology involves gathering the relevant Quranic verses, extracting their intended wisdoms from both their explicit text (mantuq) and implied meaning (mafhum) through the interpretations of Quranic exegetes and jurists, and presenting general principles before examining detailed applications . His work examines how these legal injunctions contribute to personal spiritual refinement, social cohesion, and the facilitation of religious ease and the alleviation of hardship (taysir wa-rafʿ al-haraj) .
