Wird al-Yawm wa al-Layla

Wird al-Yawm wa al-Layla (The Daily and Nightly Litany) is a concise Islamic devotional guide compiled by Khalid al-Juraysi, published as the third entry in the Zad al-Mu'min series.

Content and Structure

The booklet gathers authentic prophetic remembrances and supplications (adhkar) intended to accompany a Muslim throughout daily life. The author designed it to be brief and easily recited in a few minutes, structuring its contents sequentially according to standard daily routines and giving special emphasis to the supplications associated with prayer.

Following an introduction, the work is organized into two main chapters:

  • Chapter One: Covers the supplications accompanying the believer during daily activities, such as waking up, entering and exiting the lavatory, performing night prayers (qiyam al-layl and witr), responding to the call to prayer (adhan), dressing, leaving home, walking to the mosque, boarding transport, and the various postures and conclusion of ritual prayer.
  • Chapter Two: Dedicated to the prescribed morning and evening remembrances.

To facilitate memorization and regular practice, the compiler appended a portable card summarizing the morning and evening invocations and produced an audio recording of the texts.

Reception

The book includes a foreword written by Abdullah ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Jibreen, dated 1 Ramadan 1421 AH (November 2000 CE). Al-Jibreen commended the work for its utility, its conciseness that spares the reader unnecessary elongation, and its reliance on sound and established narrations from the Sunnah.
