Tuhfat al-Amin fi man yuqbal qawluhu bila yamin (Arabic: تحفة الأمين فيمن يقبل قوله بلا يمين) is a legal treatise in Shafi'i jurisprudence by Alam al-Din Salih ibn Umar al-Balqini (d. 868 AH / 1464 CE) addressing legal cases in which a trustee or claimant's statement is accepted without requiring an oath .

Purpose and Scope

In his introduction, al-Balqini states that he compiled these notes on selected legal issues where the word of a trustee (al-amin) and others is accepted without swearing an oath so that jurists could review them and people of piety and religion could benefit from them . The treatise gathers specific applications across various chapters of Shafi'i jurisprudence where the procedural requirement of an oath is waived .

Method and Sources

The author organizes the treatise by selecting one, two, or more issues from various standard chapters of jurisprudence, introducing each section with the partitive particle min (e.g., Min bab al-zakah) . In formulating the issues, he either articulates them in his own phrasing or quotes them directly from authoritative Shafi'i references .

Among the works he explicitly cites are al-Tatimmah, al-Kifayah, and al-Hawi, and he relies extensively on Rawdat al-Talibin by Muhyi al-Din al-Nawawi . In most instances, al-Balqini asserts the definitive ruling corresponding to the correct position (al-sahih) of the Shafi'i school; in some cases, he mentions differing opinions without specifying the preferred view, and he rarely cites positions that go against the school's doctrine .

Reception and Attribution

The attribution of the treatise to Alam al-Din al-Balqini is recorded in major bibliographical works, including Kashf al-zunun by Hajji Khalifa and Hadiyyat al-arifin by Isma'il Pasha al-Baghdadi .
