Thamarat al-Tasaru ila al-Hubb fi Allah Taala wa Tark al-Taqatu (The Fruit of Rushing Toward Love for the Sake of God Almighty and Abandoning Mutual Severance) is a short treatise on Islamic ethics and brotherly affection composed by the Damascene scholar Jamal al-Din al-Qasimi (1283–1332 AH / 1866–1914 CE) .

Composition and Manuscript

Al-Qasimi completed the work on 19 Shawwal 1313 AH (April 1896 CE) . The author's original manuscript consists of five folios, with 23 lines per page, and was preserved in Damascus in the collection of his grandson, Muhammad Sa'id al-Qasimi .

Contents and Themes

The treatise compiles a selection of prophetic traditions concerning the virtue of loving others purely for the sake of God and the strict prohibition of estrangement, animosity, and severing ties among believers .

The first section gathers narrations encouraging love for God's sake, including the divine shade promised to those who love one another for God's majesty, the merit of visiting fellow believers, informing a brother of one's love for him, and maintaining righteous companionship .

The second section addresses the prohibition of desertion (tahajur) and severance (taqatu'). It cites traditions forbidding Muslims from boycotting one another for more than three nights, warning against suspicion, envy, and mutual hatred, and noting that forgiveness on Mondays and Thursdays is withheld from those harboring enmity until they reconcile . The work highlights the supreme virtue of reconciling disputes (islah dhat al-bayn), citing the tradition that permits speaking conciliatory words to mend relations, followed by an explanatory quotation from al-Khattabi's Ma'alim al-Sunan .

Publication

The treatise was edited and annotated with hadith documentation by Muhammad ibn Nasir al-Ajmi and published by Dar al-Basha'ir al-Islamiyyah in Beirut in 1421 AH / 2000 CE as part of the Liqa al-'Ashr al-Awakhir bi-al-Masjid al-Haram series, alongside al-Qasimi's epistle Sirr al-Istighfar 'aqib al-Salawat . The editor collated the transcribed text against the author's autograph in the Prophet's Mosque in Medina on 17 Sha'ban 1420 AH, and again in the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca on 21 Ramadan 1420 AH .
