Thabat Muallafat al-Albani (Thabat Muʾallafāt al-Albānī, "Register of the Works of al-Albani") is a bibliographical catalogue authored by Abu Muhammad Abd Allah ibn Muhammad al-Hawali al-Shamrani, documenting the written works, editions, and critical treatises of the twentieth-century hadith scholar Muhammad Nasir al-Din al-Albani (1332–1420 AH / 1914–1999 CE), alongside the literature written in support or refutation of him .

Composition and Publication

The work was initially issued as a preliminary bulletin (nashrah) in early 1421 AH (2000 CE) . After receiving feedback and additional material from readers, al-Shamrani expanded the catalogue, restructuring its contents and incorporating substantial additions . The revised, expanded version was subsequently published by Dar Ibn al-Jawzi in 1422 AH (2001/2002 CE) .

The author acknowledged Yasir ibn Abd al-Aziz al-Thumayri for encouraging the publication of the bibliography, Abd Allah ibn Mani al-Utaybi for reviewing the draft and providing comments, and Abd al-Aziz ibn Abd Allah al-Ghanim for conducting a comprehensive final review of the text .

Sources and Scope

Al-Shamrani compiled the register from several distinct source categories :

  • His personal library and collection of al-Albani’s published works .
  • References and bibliographical lists provided by al-Albani in his own book introductions, such as those in Sahih Sunan Ibn Majah and Sahih al-Jami al-Saghir .
  • Previous biographical and bibliographical compilations, notably Muhammad al-Shaybani's Hayat al-Albani, Asim ibn Abd Allah al-Qaryuti's list in Kawkaba min A'immat al-Huda, and Ali ibn Hasan al-Halabi's serialized catalogue in al-Asalah magazine (issues 21–22) .
  • Information compiled from online research platforms .

Structure and Contents

The book is structured into an introduction, five principal chapters, and supplementary appendices :

  • Introduction (al-Muqaddimah): Details the outline of the research and outlines the primary bibliographical sources used in compiling the inventory .
  • Chapter One: Discusses biographical sources written on the life and legacy of al-Albani .
  • Chapter Two: Forms the core of the work (Thabat al-Shaykh), consisting of an introductory section on methodology and four main subsections :
    1. An inventory of al-Albani’s authentic authored books, verifications (tahqiqat), hadith extractions (takhrijat), and annotations .
    2. A supplementary section (tatimmah) addressing books sometimes attributed to al-Albani, including transcriptions of audio cassettes that did not meet the author's inclusion criteria for verified standalone publications .
    3. Critical notes on assertions made in al-Shaybani's Hayat al-Albani regarding al-Albani's polemical responses and refutations .
    4. An analysis of the general characteristics (simat) of al-Albani’s writings, highlighting his defense of Salafi theology, his focus on combating religious innovation (bid'ah), and his application of the methodology of traditional hadith scholars (Ahl al-Hadith) .
  • Chapter Three: A survey and listing of published articles and journal essays written by al-Albani .
  • Chapter Four: A catalogue of books written by other scholars and researchers examining al-Albani's scholarship and outlining his methodology .
  • Chapter Five: A catalogue of works written to refute, critique, or append corrections (istidrakat) to al-Albani on specific theological or legal-hadith matters where their authors differed with him .
  • Appendices (al-Malahiq): Present sample facsimiles of al-Albani's handwritten manuscripts, a clarifying note on the booklet Mujmal Masa'il al-Iman al-Ilmiyyah, and various scholarly legal rulings (fatawa) regarding selected titles .
