Tawfiq al-Rabb al-Munim bi Sharh Sahih al-Imam Muslim (The Facilitation of the Beneficent Lord in Explaining the Sahih of Imam Muslim) is a multi-volume commentary on Sahih Muslim by the contemporary Saudi scholar Abd al-Aziz ibn Abd Allah al-Rajihi .
Background and Composition
The work originated from audio-recorded mosque lessons delivered by Abd al-Aziz ibn Abd Allah ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Rajihi . These recordings were later transcribed and merged with annotations and marginal notes (hawashi) that the author had penned on the texts of the two primary hadith collections during his years of study and lesson preparation .
Prior to this work, al-Rajihi had authored a commentary on Sahih al-Bukhari entitled Minhat al-Malik al-Jalil bi-Sharh Sahih al-Imam Muhammad ibn Isma'il (The Grant of the Majestic King in Explaining the Sahih of Imam Muhammad ibn Isma'il) . When revising and correcting that commentary for its second edition following the exhaustion of its first print run, he simultaneously finalized his commentary on Sahih Muslim, incorporating substantial additions and giving it its title .
Contents and Method
The commentary provides an extensive exposition of the collection compiled by Muslim ibn al-Hajjaj (204–261 AH), beginning with a detailed treatment of Imam Muslim's introductory treatise (Muqaddimah) and proceeding directly into the canonical chapters, starting with the Book of Faith (Kitab al-Iman) .
In analyzing the structure and style of Sahih Muslim, the author highlights Imam Muslim's distinct methodology of gathering all chains of transmission (turuq) of a given hadith in a single place without fragmenting them across multiple thematic chapters . Al-Rajihi explains that this structural approach provides distinct advantages, such as demonstrating the corroboration of narrations, facilitating legal inference, clarifying ambiguous terms, identifying variations in wording, and identifying previously unnamed narrators .
