Tawdih Maqasid al-Mustalahat al-Ilmiyya fi al-Risala al-Tadmuriyya (Clarification of the Objectives of Scientific Terminology in al-Risala al-Tadmuriyya) is a treatise by Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Khamis dedicated to explaining difficult terms and theological expressions in Ibn Taymiyyah's creedal work al-Risala al-Tadmuriyya.
Background and Purpose
The work originated from al-Khamis's teaching of al-Risala al-Tadmuriyya during the first semester of 1415 AH to fourth-level female students in the Department of Creed and Contemporary Trends. Following requests from the students to clarify complex terms found in the treatise, he authored this booklet to resolve its vocabulary and concepts, completing its preface on 3 Ramadan 1415 AH.
Structure and Method
The author structured the book by following the order of terms and phrases as they appear sequentially in al-Risala al-Tadmuriyya, utilizing a print issued by Maktabat al-Turath al-Islami in Egypt. In each section, he quotes an excerpt from Ibn Taymiyyah's text and provides an accompanying commentary (al-sharh) that elucidates technical terms used by theologians (al-mutakallimun) and Sufis, addresses grammatical considerations and potential scribal corruptions in the text, and clarifies theological topics such as divine attributes, textual reports (khabar), and divine decree (qadar).
Publication
The book was published in Riyadh by Dar al-Sumay'i in its first edition in 1416 AH (1995–1996 CE), comprising 68 pages.
