Tarjamat al-Shaykh Abd al-Rahman al-Afriqi (Biography of Shaykh Abd al-Rahman al-Afriqi) is a biographical study by Umar Muhammad Fallatah (d. 1419 AH / 1998 CE) dedicated to the life and scholarly legacy of the modern hadith scholar Abd al-Rahman al-Afriqi (d. 1376 or 1377 AH).
Background and Composition
The work originated as an extensive lecture prepared at the request of the scholar Abd al-Muhsin al-Abbad, who asked Fallatah to document the biography of his teacher, Abd al-Rahman al-Afriqi. The lecture was delivered and subsequently published in a volume compiling fifteen lectures organized at the Islamic University of Madinah dating to 1395 or 1396 AH (and recorded on the university's lecture schedule in 1398 AH under the title al-Shaykh ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Ifrīqī: Ḥayātuh wa-Āthāruh).
Subject and Content
The work focuses on the life, virtues, and scholarly output of Shaykh Abd al-Rahman al-Afriqi, who was a prominent modern hadith scholar and instructor of hadith and hadith nomenclature (muṣṭalaḥ al-ḥadīth) at the Riyadh Scientific Institute (Ma'had al-Riyad al-Ilmi). It serves as a primary source compiled by one of his direct students to preserve his biography and intellectual contributions.
