Tanwir al-Fikra bi-Hadith Bahz ibn Hakim (Illuminating Thought Through the Hadith of Bahz ibn Hakim) is a hadith treatise by the Syrian hadith master Ibn Nasir al-Din al-Dimashqi (d. 842 AH / 1438 CE) examining the narration transmitted through Bahz ibn Hakim on good companionship and social conduct (husn al-ʿishra) .
Title and Nature
The work is recorded under several slight variants in biographical and bibliographical literature, including Tanwir al-Fikra fi Hadith Bahz ibn Hakim fi Husn al-ʿIshra and Tanwir al-Fikr bi-Hadith Bahz ibn Hakim fi Husn al-ʿIshra . It belongs to Ibn Nasir al-Din's dictation sessions (amali) and standalone monograph treatises (rasaʾil), designed as an analytical exposition (majlis) focused on the chain of transmission and textual implications of the hadith of Bahz ibn Hakim ibn Muʿawiya ibn Haydah al-Qushayri .
Transmission and Manuscripts
A copy of the treatise was transcribed by Ibn Nasir al-Din's student Ibn Fahd al-Makki (d. 885 AH / 1480 CE), upon which the author inscribed the title in his own handwriting . Manuscript copies are preserved in institutional collections, including the Library of the Holy Mosque in Mecca (Maktabat al-Haram al-Makki, majmuʿ no. 106) and the Central Library in Riyadh (no. 382/f) .
Publication
The treatise was edited by Mishʿal ibn Bani al-Jibrin al-Mutayri and published by Dar Ibn Hazm in Beirut (1422 AH / 2001 CE) as part of a collective volume of treatises by Ibn Nasir al-Din (Majmuʿ fihi Rasaʾil li-Ibn Nasir al-Din) .
