Takhrij al-Kalim al-Tayyib (The Graduated Good Word) is a work of prophetic supplications (adʿiya) and daily remembrances (adhkār) compiled by Ibn Taymiyya (661–728 AH / 1263–1328 CE) and edited with hadith authentication (takhrīj) by the scholar Muhammad Nasir al-Din al-Albani .

Subject and Content

The core text, titled al-Kalim al-Tayyib, was written by Ibn Taymiyya to assemble transmitted invocations from the Quran and the prophetic Sunnah, emphasizing reliance on established prophetic traditions rather than innovated litanies (awrād) . It gathers supplications for recurrent daily occasions and specific life circumstances, including:

  • Morning and evening remembrances, with Ibn Taymiyya holding that the morning adhkar time concludes at sunrise .
  • Supplications for going to sleep and waking up .
  • Invocations upon leaving the house .
  • Prayers for distress, sorrow, anxiety, and fear .
  • Supplications related to travel and entering towns or settlements .
  • Sighting the crescent moon .

Ibn Taymiyya's student Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya subsequently drew upon and expanded these themes in his own work, al-Wabil al-Sayyib min al-Kalim al-Tayyib .

Authentication and Editions

Al-Albani prepared a critical edition and hadith authentication (takhrīj) of al-Kalim al-Tayyib, identifying the sources of its reports and evaluating their chains of transmission into authentic (ṣaḥīḥ) and weak (ḍaʿīf) narrations . He also compiled the authenticated narrations separately into an abridged version titled Sahih al-Kalim al-Tayyib .

Notable printings of the book include:

  • Sahih al-Kalim al-Tayyib, published by Maktabat al-Ma'arif in Riyadh (eighth edition in 1407 AH / 1987 CE, comprising 120 pages) .
